The Setup: Where they all live!

As you can imagine, housing 10 piggies is no small setup - especially with so many separate groups! Why so many separate groups? Well:

- Errol and Archie are intact boars, so no contact with ladies allowed.

- Meghan is the only spayed sow, so she has Gabriel all to herself.
- Saffron and Breanna are aggressive towards other sows...

- and Willa is prone to bullying other sows too.

The setup is pretty straight forward. I use C&C cages (have done for 7 years now) and for six of those years I have used/continue to use fleece as the main bedding. I do also provide a food zone in the cage; here I use newspaper with Oxbow Orchard Grass hay on top.

This photo shows the complete setup. Within the setup we have two units; each unit is a three level 2x5 (pictured below). Each group of pigs is given one 2x5 cage (more than 2ft x 5ft) - plenty of space to move around in and to give each other space when they please.

 My Rainbow Bridge Guineas

Of course, when it comes to keeping any animals, there is the sad reality that one day, our beloved friends will pass away. Many owners like to believe that their pets go to Rainbow Bridge, a place where they are happy, healthy and among friends, until the day where they are reunited with their owners in the spiritual realm. There is more about Rainbow Bridge here.

I have added this section to my website to pay tribute to the guinea pigs of mine who I have loved and lost over the past few years. Each of them was, and continues to be, very special and influential in my life. Some have taught me much in the way of general guinea pig care; my experiences with some of them improved my medical knowledge of these creatures greatly, some helped me greatly with emotional learnings - all of them gave me something, a gift, which I feel honoured and obliged to use to go forward with helping any future guinea pigs, whether they be my own or belonging to others.
